Microsoft didn’t release the Windows 10 Creators update for Intel Atom Clover Trail processors PCs. Many devices came out with Intel’s Atom Clover Trail chips during Windows 8 era. Microsoft offered a free Windows 10 update for those PCs to keep up-to-date on content. ZDNet earlier revealed that the compatible drivers are preventing the users from Creators Update. Now Microsoft has officially revealed that Intel Atom Clover Trail processors will no longer support Windows 10 updates. As they need additional hardware requirement yo provide the best user experience on latest feature update.
Microsoft states that “They require additional hardware support to provide the best possible experience when updating to the latest Windows 10 feature update, the Windows 10 Creators Update”. The company also adds up that “However, these systems are no longer supported by Intel, and without the necessary driver support, they may be incapable of moving to the Windows 10 Creators Update without a potential performance impact.” Microsoft will be offering old Windows 10 Anniversary Update to Intel Cover Trail devices. The company will also provide security updates to the devices running with Intel Atom Cover Trail processors. These security updates will be available to the devices having Anniversary Update until January 2023.
Security update time period on Windows 10 for Intel Atom processors
The company intents that these date may align with the original Windows 8.1 extended support period. As the older devices will have only security updates, not new features. The time period depends on the support period available. Intel Atom Processors gives the best battery life to the devices running Windows 8.1 it seems. The good performance on devices make a lack due to un-availability of updates. This makes the user to switch on Intel’s Core series machines. And more probable Intel gave up on Atom Processor last year. HP’s Envy X2 is one of the popular device with Intel Atom Processor.
